Tornadoes did not keep me from wearing my shark hat to the Jimmy Buffett concert. My dad was supposed to go to Arizona this weekend, but his trip was postponed. He didn't have a ticket, but Brian graciously gave up his ticket. My mom kept calling all afternoon, and if it would have been up to either of us to drive, we wouldn't have braved the weather. My dad, however, would go out if there were seven feet of snow on the road. We were disappointed that the rain kept us from people watching at the tailgates, but we still had plenty of time to eat in the Old Market. We ate at Rock Bottom with a horde of Buffett fans. You could tell who was going to the concert by their parrot or shark hats, Hawaiian shirts, Buffett t-shirts, or coconut bras and grass skirts.
Dad led us astray, and we were sitting in the wrong seats. I was happy to move because some old dude in front of me thought it was necessary to put his arm around his son. He was invading my space. We moved to our real seats, and then got to sit by four 20-somethings who had been drinking all day. The couple next to me were very touchy-feely. When Jimmy played "Margaritaville," they stood up to sing along. This was fine, but then the girl interrogated me about why I didn't stand up. First of all, I don't have very good balance, and my decrease of steroids have given me new side-effects, like fatigue, aching joints and muscles, a slight temperature, and a dull headache. When she asked, I played the "Cancer Card," and told her that I was on a lot of medication post leukemia. All of a sudden, Drunk Girl was my new BFF, and would occasionally sing lines to me.
Despite the distractions (including the beach balls that were sometimes hit onto the stage), the concert was amazing. Before the concert, I said that Warren Buffett should show up (and put money in one of those hotdog shooters). Warren did show up on stage wearing a suit; whereas, Jimmy wore a t-shirt, shorts, and no shoes. Apparently, they aren't related, despite Jimmy calling Warren a cousin.
I'm glad that my dad isn't scared of driving in crappy weather, and I'm glad I got to finally see Jimmy Buffett. When we got into Lincoln, we heard the tornado sirens. Had we been a little slower, we would have still been in North Lincoln.

More Press

Happy Easter! I was happy to not spend this Easter getting a blood transfusion and platelets (although I did enjoy my "Happy Easter" video from the East staff and students, and the Hershey/Wilson EASTer banner). Brian and I went for a walk at Holmes Lake this afternoon, with everyone else (and their purse-sized dogs). I spent the majority of the day finishing up my assessment project for grad class, and tomorrow I have a ginormous stack of papers to grade. I'm not sure who assigned those, but that person is probably an idiot.
We had two beautiful days for track meets this week. After the JV meet on Tuesday, Brian and I were interviewed by Ron Powell. If you didn't see the article, here is the link: http://journalstar.com/sports/high-school/track-and-field/east-track-coach-back-after-battling-breast-cancer-leukemia/article_77ba68e1-34ca-5527-beee-fe497dcea2e5.html?mode=story
If the link doesn't work, just go to www.journalstar.com and look up my name. I think I am out of stories, so I don't suppose I'll be interviewed again for a while. It's amazing what some people will do for a "cancer survivor." I was offered the use of a cabin in Colorado. I'm hoping Brian and I can take advantage of the cabin offer, if we can squeeze it in between my three weeks of grad class (and Brian's jury duty) and our trip to Ireland and Scotland.
I have posted one of the pictures taken at the JV meet. I have already apologized profusely for spelling Eajan's name wrong in the caption. The photographer followed me around and took a million photographs. One of our distance kids asked me, "Did you know this guy is following you and taking a lot of pictures?" I told him that the photographer was my paparazzi.
Next Saturday is the Jimmy Buffett concert in Omaha. I hope it's cool enough to wear my sweet crocheted shark hat!
